What to play in August: 8 main new releases

Black Myth: Wukong

Black Myth: Wukong is the most anticipated game on Steam. The dynamic, graphic Chinese action game with soulslike elements has won the hearts of fans around the world, and after rumors that the developers had turned down Sweet Baby Inc., the game has become a banner of struggle for all that is good against all that is bad.
Black Myth: Wukong will tell about the adventures of the Monkey King, one of the most famous heroes of Chinese mythology and classical literature. In his combat arsenal, in addition to the standard slasher set of strong/weak blows, parrying and dodging, there will be the ability to temporarily turn opponents into defeated ones. According to the trailers, the combat is very reminiscent of Sekiro – dynamic, fast, skill-dependent with elements of acrobatics and verticality. However, the difficulty can be adjusted to suit yourself so that the challenge is comfortable.
The world of Black Myth: Wukong, like soulslike, will consist of separate locations-levels with hidden passages and shortcuts.
The only thing that confuses me is:Game Science has no experience creating full-fledged AAA projects, so no matter how tempting Black Myth may be, refrain from pre-ordering.

Star Wars Outlaws

An open-world action RPG set in a down-to-earth Star Wars setting, without Jedi, Sith, or lightsabers. The main character is adventurer Kay Vess. She travels the galaxy and assembles a team for the greatest heist in history. Star Wars Outlaws takes place in the Empire era between the events of Episodes V and VI of the film saga.
Ubisoft claims that their new game will be a huge open-world space RPG adventure. Lots of planets, space battles, various factions, quests with several options for completing, equipment, an extensive leveling system, stealth, shootouts, the atmosphere of a galaxy far, far away.
Outlaws does have a Star Wars feel, but the gameplay is still underwhelming. The released footage is disappointing with outdated animations and Fallout 3-level gunplay.

Concord

The hero shooter in the visual style of Guardians of the Galaxy has already been called the biggest failure of the year, although the game hasn’t even been released yet. However, the beta test results are really disappointing: Steam barely had 3 thousand users online, and the rating in the PlayStation Store is close to two points. Concord is based on 5 vs. 5 team battles, where gamers control heroes with unique abilities and characteristics.
The game is praised for its shooting, but criticized for everything else. The modes are vague, the heroes are not memorable, the gameplay lacks fresh ideas. And the main complaint: why another paid team hero shooter if there is a free Overwatch 2?
However, it is too early to write off Concord: there are rumors that the game will have a PvE mode, training, a storyline, and new characters by the release. Another reason for optimism is that Firewalk Studios was created by veterans of Bungie and Activision.
World of Goo 2

A sequel to the cult puzzle game of the 2000s. As in the first part, the basis of the gameplay will be the creation of structures that obey simple laws of physics, from various “living” elements with unique properties.
The original’s success was due to its unique visual style, LocoRoco-esque atmosphere, and accessibility. Developers 2D Boy (the same two guys who created the original) promise to retain the key elements that made the first part a cult classic, and add new mechanics and puzzles.
Deathbound

Another soulslike with a generous mix of genres. This time, party RPG elements were added to the gameplay skeleton. The player will have to control a squad of four warriors, between whom you can freely switch during the battle. You need to assemble a team from defeated enemies. The main feature of the game will be the combination of skills and abilities of squad members, as well as a strong emphasis on pumping up characters.
Deathbound is set in a post-apocalyptic techno-fantasy. The game world has been destroyed by an apocalypse, and now the battle between Science and Faith is unfolding on the ruins of an advanced civilization.
Deathbound looks pretty low-budget, but the creators’ experiment in mixing genres and developing familiar and already boring mechanics is intriguing.
Cat Quest III

The third part of the adventure RPG about cats in the style of the classic Legend of Zelda with meowing visuals and a pirate theme. Exploration of a large 2.5D open world, countless dungeons, treasure hunts and arcade combat. For the first time in the series, you will be able to sail the seas on your own ship. The main character will be confronted by evil rats, pigs, ghosts and other monsters.
Colourful environments, a pleasant and responsive combat system and even more signature cat jokes (purr-fect journey, Murrib Sea, meow-steria).
Dustborn

An adventure game visually reminiscent of Hi-Fi Rush. The main character Pax and her friends set off on a tour bus on a journey through the United States, which has become the Disunited States of America under the oppressive government.
Dustborn is a mix of a visual novel about a band’s journey, a simple third-person action game, and a set of mini-games, including rhythm ones. The visual style, story, and characters should be the main draw here. If the game is definitely good with the former, then we should wait for the first reviews regarding the plot.
Level Zero: Extraction (Early Access)

An asymmetrical horror shooter from Ukrainian studio DogHowl Games became a hit at the Steam festival “Garam Byt’”. Fans hope that the game will refresh the quagmire of evacuation shooters and even challenge the mastodon Escape from Tarkov.
In Level Zero: Extraction, you play as mercenaries who must infiltrate an abandoned location, collect data and valuable equipment, and then escape. Players can team up with up to three people, and there will be up to 12 mercenaries on the map at the same time.
A Place in the Sun and High Online Level Zero should provide a sci-fi setting, the ability to play as a dangerous alien and elements of survival horror.
Based on the results of the beta test, players noted a tense, viscous and creepy atmosphere, which increases the stakes several times and keeps you on your toes.
