Methods2: Secrets and Death Review

Methods2: Secrets and Death Review

New People, New Story, Old Readers

I have been waiting for Methods2: Secrets and Death Review. When I decided to review the first Methods game, it was because I love detective fiction. I loved the first part of the planned Methods series. Now that I have played Methods2:Secrets and Death, I remember why.

One might think that a sequel disappoints more than it enhances the experience. Whether it is a movie, book or TV series, there is initial hesitation. Will this work? Will this have the original tone and richness of creativity?

I am here to assure you that as far as Methods2: Secrets and Death is concerned, it’s as good as the first installment. However, here’s a fair warning. This is going to be my shortest review, not because the game doesn’t have much to offer, but because it actually offers the exact opposite. However, no plot point is worth being spoiled, so I’d rather not give away more than I should.

All in all, I can say this: Methods started with an amazing cast of characters. Methods2 is written with various clichés, tropes and writing devices that are usually associated with detective fiction in mind. The reading experience, the characters, the plot points, the narrative, and the overall visual narrative were all carefully crafted.

Methods2:Secrets and Death has all that too. It’s safe to say that the second installment doesn’t stray far away from the first iteration. It’s creative enough to engage you in the new storyline, but it feels familiar and allows veterans of the first game to easily adapt to the narrative.

Something Old, Something New

Methods2 unravels chapters 21 to 42, but even though the setup is the same, there’s a new element to it. The second season continues the story, with the original setup. However, the story involves some new characters along with the original. The twist this time is that now detectives are hunting a game master. On top of that, the game master in question has gone undercover to deter the detectives from doing so. Also, the first installment was set around a detective competition. There, detectives were set against criminal masterminds to solve cases within a hotel. It was a hunt to eliminate the failed detectives and masterminds and to reach the top without being eliminated. But Methods2 becomes a little more intricate. The players are now trying to solve the main mystery: finding out the identity of the original game master who came up with the idea of the competition.

Gameplay Experience

The narrative of Methods2: Secrets and Death explores a lot more, and without giving many spoilers, let’s just say there are two narratives unraveling in parallel. You will get the chance to solve two kinds of mysteries: the mystery of the game master and the multiple mysteries set up within the competition.

Honestly, I had a lot of fun with this one too. I have read that there were originally a total of five parts planned for this title. If the rest are developed in the same vein as these two, I am all in.

Methods2: Secrets and Death not only continues the awesome storyline and quirky characters from the first installment but also ensures that the narrative is as engaging as the former. The game is an amazing read-through with mysteries at every corner (quite literally, since it is still unraveling in a hotel). The rooms where the mysteries are set are awesomely wicked to solve.

I fully recommend that you head into another incredible installment of the Methods Detective Competition. The gameplay is humorous with a wide array of characters and quirky dialogues. You won’t be bored. It’s intriguing and amusing, and never boring.
