If Elden Ring is not your first Souls game, then meeting Romina, Saint of the Button in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion will probably bring you nightmares of Quelaag from the original Dark Souls or Scorpion Nazhka from the second part. Moreover, they have in common not only an additional set of limbs, but also a high difficulty. In addition, Romina is also a mandatory boss that must be defeated in order to complete the DLC. Since this difficult battle cannot be avoided, we decided to write a guide that will help at least a little easier for you.

LOCATION OF ROMINA

If you are reading this article, you probably already know that Romina lives in the Ruins of the ancient monastery of Rauch, or more precisely, in the Temple of Flower Buds in the very west of the location.

We have already partially described how to get there in one of our previous guides .

In short, you’ll first have to go through the Shadow Haven Fortress , defeat the Golden Hippopotamus boss there , cross a bridge, and take the elevator up. Then from the Place of Grace “Ruins of Rauch’s Abbey, East” you’ll cross another bridge, passing or defeating the Furnace Giant.

We also dedicated a separate guide to the battle with this enemy .

Then, go up the stairs and straight through the arch to reach an open area covered in water. Here, turn left from the structure in the middle and go through the ruins on the right side of the waterfall. Then, continue straight until you find an elevator on the left that will take you straight to the main entrance of the Flowerbud Temple.

ROMINA’S WEAKNESSES

At first, this terrifying hybrid of a scorpion man and a centipede seems invincible. Luckily, Romina has quite a few weaknesses that we can exploit.

  • Bleeding Vulnerability: One of the best things about Romina is how much damage she takes from bleeding. As with most bosses in Elden Ring , if you have a bleed weapon, spell, and gear, feel free to use them, preferably together. Powerful consecutive bleed attacks can take a significant chunk of her health. Just remember to keep an eye on your own HP bar.
  • Vulnerability to Magic and Holy Damage: Magic and Holy damage also work well against Romina. Therefore, you may have a better chance against her if you are playing a mage or simply have a high enough stat for Sorcery and Faith.
  • Vulnerability to physical damage: If you don’t have any of the above in your arsenal, don’t worry. Romina is also susceptible to physical damage, more specifically, to piercing attacks. Naturally, the attacks must be strong and you will need to perform a lot of them to win, so if you act persistently and at the same time carefully, and manage to maintain your composure throughout this long battle, you can defeat the boss with regular sword or spear strikes.

HOW TO DEFEAT ROMINA

To have a chance in the battle with Romina, you will have to remember a few important things. Firstly, her attacks quickly accumulate red rot, which subsequently leads to poisoning and a constant decrease in HP. And secondly, this is simply one of the most unpleasant bosses in the DLC, primarily due to her chaotic manner of moving around the arena and the variety of attacks.

  • Mix a Miracle Potion to increase your strength and reduce damage: As with any legendary boss fight, a Miracle Potion is essential. Since Romina takes damage from bleed, physical, magical, and holy attacks, consider using a mixture of the appropriate Cracked Tears depending on how much damage you want to deal. Additionally, a Protective Crystal Tear will reduce damage taken from you, at least for a while.
  • Don’t be shy about calling for help: Since Romina is essentially a scorpion, centipede, and sorceress all rolled into one, it’s also fair to bring a few comrades into battle, whether that’s another player, a spirit of dust, or an NPC (in this case, Dane Dryleaf is available for summoning). In any case, it makes sense if your ally can deal a lot of damage to Romina, otherwise he simply won’t have time to bring any benefit before his inevitable death.
  • Stock up on Warding Pills: As we mentioned, Romina’s attacks accumulate red rot, which leads to poisoning. To combat this, stock up on special Warding Pills. They can be easily crafted or found in locations with rotten swamps.
  • Avoid Bloody Cuts: Romina will usually start the fight with a series of vicious slashing attacks that will quickly build up Red Rot, so try to either stay away or roll into her at this point.
  • Beware of Jumps: Sometimes Romina will hover in the air for a short time. When she does this, you will see a bright pink flash before she launches it at you. Forward rolls also save you from this attack.
  • Run from the Gathering Storm: After lunging, Romina can spin around, creating a deadly whirlwind. Staying inside this tornado will increase your Red Rot buildup, so the surest way to avoid this is to make a quick tactical retreat away from the storm’s eye.
  • Beware of Explosive Butterflies: When fighting Romina at close range, she can also briefly fly into the air, summoning a swarm of butterflies. Rather than just stare in awe at this beauty, we recommend running as fast as you can, as you only have a few moments before the butterflies explode, dealing massive Red Rot damage.
  • Hit whenever possible: If your hero is a real powerhouse, it makes sense to take a risk and perform several powerful attacks on Romina’s body. With enough damage, you can even stun her, which will allow you to perform a critical hit, which takes away a significant amount of health at once.

REWARD FOR DEFEATING ROMINA

As with other legendary bosses, defeating Romina, Saint of Flowerbuds will reward you with a huge amount of runes (at least 380 thousand) and a memory that can be exchanged with Enya, Reader of the Fingers in the Fortress of the Round Table for a weapon or Romina’s spell.

It will either be the Flowerbud Glaive, which requires 14 strength, 22 agility and 20 sorcery, which deals 131 physical damage and accumulates 55 rot, or the spell with those same red rot butterflies.
