Five studios and loyalty to the original: Details of the remake of Prince of Persia The Sands of Time

On June 11, Ubisoft released material on its website revealing new details of the development of a remake of the cult Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time . Earlier at the Ubisoft Forward show, it was announced that the game would not be released until 2026.

In the blog, the creators tried to explain the reason for such a long development. Let us remember that the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was initially presented in the summer of 2020, and Ubisoft Pune from India was involved in it.

From the material it became known that as many as five studios are working on the updated version of the action-adventure game: Ubisoft Montreal (main), Ubisoft Toronto, Ubisoft Bucharest, Ubisoft Paris and Ubisoft Pune.

  • The developers have confirmed that pre-production on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has been completed and full production has now begun.

  • The remake is being created with great respect for the original – Ubisoft names four key pillars in development: sanctification, respect, modernization and addition

  • Every aspect of the original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has been analyzed – some are left untouched, some are improved, some are brought up to modern standards, and some are added from scratch – such as accessibility options

  • They decided not to touch the wall running and the dagger of time; they will bring the level design to a modern level, and also increase the overall scale of the world

  • The combat system will undergo the greatest changes, since the original was released 21 years ago, during which time the industry has moved far ahead, and hits like Dark Souls and God of War appeared on the market

  • The delay in the release of the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is due to the fact that over the past four years, updated versions of other cult games have been released, which have greatly raised the bar – Ubisoft does not want to be left behind

  • Already, Ubisoft has made “big changes” to characters, camera and controls

  • The developers say that the development of a remake and a new game takes approximately the same amount of time – only the concept stage goes faster, since there is already a base in the form of the original

  • Ubisoft will not change the story, but the relationship between the Prince and Farah will become more developed and deep – for example, the heroes will talk and interact with each other more often

  • The developers noted that Farah is now a full-fledged partner with her own thinking and character

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will be released on PC and consoles.
