You may think that Crime Boss: Rockay City, which was released in 2023 under normal circumstances but will also hit the Steam store on June 18 , has undergone major changes after 1 year. But it’s not quite like that. Aside from the “big budget” deals it includes, it also wants to reflect the Payday-style robbery theme to the player, but it cannot do this very successfully. The game does not have a story line that allows you to progress without any effort. In the single-player part, you are given a region and your only goal is to conquer it.

Your aim is to conquer the region you encounter, to establish a more advanced gang army and to hit the bottom of the money by carrying out different robberies in the process. This scenario, which can be described as “Roguelike”, may amuse you at times , but after a while it becomes repetitive, allowing you to get bored quickly. The things you do and will do within the scope of gang wars are quite simple. You either fight a short war to take an area from another gang member, plan a robbery to earn more money, or plan to see something different by completing the main scenario missions that come from time to time. However, repeating this process becomes quite boring after a while.

The city of Rockay was created inspired by the atmosphere of the 90s and appears with a gang everywhere, dirty money circulating and the leading names of the underworld constantly involved in events. It looks quite interesting as it is, but I don’t think they reflect this into the game very much. So, I feel like they could have done a better job by wasting the potential and gathering so many stars together.

The robbery missions in the game are not only in the single-player part. If you wish, you can join online servers or play with your friends. In classic Payday style, you fall into a map and try to capture all the money there. This map can be places such as a bank, shop or money van. But don’t be excited about working like Payday because the activities you can do are quite limited. Carrying out these robberies turns into an unwilling relationship after a while. Because nothing different is offered to the player and it has repetitive activities.

Considering that the artificial intelligence is not very functional and the game is constantly repetitive, Crime Boss: Rockay City can be seen as not having improved itself much since its release. If so much money was spent on the cast, then a work that was entertaining or at least stood out with its action had to be produced.

Unfortunately, Rockay City was a game that failed in terms of entertainment, budget and understanding the player. If we had done this review 1 year ago, we would probably be making the same sentences again. Unfortunately, despite all this time, it is clearly obvious that he has not made any progress.
